WhatsApp announced, this Monday (15), a new feature called “Conversation Protection” . According to Meta ‘s social network , it protects specific conversations “with yet another layer of security”. In practice, it means that you can now protect chats with your device’s password or biometrics (for example, digital).
By protecting a conversation, you remove it from your main inbox and place it in another folder, which can only be accessed with the chosen password type. Feature also automatically hides the content of that conversation in notifications.
New type of protection in WhatsApp
According to the company, the new feature will have a number of uses for users.
“Functionality will be great for people who need to share their phone every now and then with a family member or for those times when someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment a special message arrives.” – excerpt from an article published on the official WhatsApp blog.
To protect a conversation, just tap the name of the person or group and select the lock option. To reveal these conversations later, you’ll need to slowly drag your inbox down and enter your phone password or biometrics.
Social network also reported that it will add other options to the new feature in the coming months. Among them are: protection of additional devices and creation of a personalized password for conversations.
Regarding the second, the company explained that, through it, you will be able to shield conversations with a password different from the one used to protect your cell phone. That is, this new layer of security will be even more customizable.

This version is being made available to some users who joined the Beta version and should reach more users over the next few weeks. However, there is still no forecast for the arrival of this new feature to other applications and the stable WhatsApp web version.
