There will be a total of 20 stories that will be part of the animated production and each one will have a different theme. In addition, the original Japanese voices that will be part of the cast will be those of Takahiro Sakurai, Romi Park, Yoko Hikasa, Hisako Kanemoto Y Natsumi Takamori. It was at the giant’s Geeked Week 2022 streaming that the manga artist himself confirmed that he would join with the American company to develop the project of Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre.

In 2018, Studio Deen had already produced Junji Ito Collection, an anime that adapted Ito’s collection into 12 episodes and two OVAs. The title was developed in collaboration with the platform Crunchyrollservice in which it premiered weekly between January and May 2018. “Souichi’s Convenient Curse”, “Hell Doll Funeral”, “Fashion Model”, “The Long Dream”, “Boy at the Crossroads”, “Slug Girl”, “Shiver” and “Marionette Mansion” were some of the stories narrated in the season.

Junji Ito, the master mangaka of Japanese terror

Nowadays, Junji Itō He is considered one of the most notable mangaka in Japan for his great contributions to the horror genre. He was born in Gifu Prefecture (Japan) in 1963, and during his youth, while working as a dental technician, he paralleled his hobby as a writer and cartoonist. In 1987, he first submitted a short story that received an important mention in the Kazuo Umezu award.

Over time, the graphic artist became more and more immersed in the strange world that he himself had created. Normally, his works are characterized by the atmosphere of terror, blood and characters that appear to be ordinary until the strangeness and madness take over. The plots that it captures between its pages are usually cruel and its protagonists are usually victims of macabre situations. Among his most notable manga are Tomie, Uzumaki, Gyo Y Black Paradox.
