Later this year a new version of Pinocchio and can be seen in Netflix. According to experts, this adaptation distances itself from the interpretation of Disney and exposes a much darker story.
This adaptation of Carlo Codolli (Italian journalist and writer, creator of Pinocchio) is directed by the Mexican William of the Bull Y Mark Gustafson (director and animator), and will be released to the public in December 2022. In addition to having the direction of the Oscar winner, it will also have an exceptional cast, who add their voices in English. Among them are Ewan McGregor (protagonist of Obi-Wan Kenobi), who is in charge of interpreting Pepe Cricket, David Bradley (roy) who puts his voice to Geppetto, and Gregory Mann (The Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society), who he puts himself in the shoes of Pinocchio.

An official press release for the new adaptation detailed:
“Academy Award-winning filmmaker, William delToro, revives the classic tale of Carlo Collodi about the wooden puppet that magically comes to life to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This fantastic stop motion animated musical follows the adventures and mischief of Pinocchio on his quest to find his place in the world.”

When the audiovisual project was announced in 2018, according to his own vision of the film, del Toro told the following: “No art form has influenced my life and work more than animation, and no character in history has had as deep a connection with me as Pinocchio.”

This will be an animated production belonging to the United States-Mexico-France co-production companies; Jim Henson Company, Netflix, Necropia Entertainment, ShadowMachine Films, Pathé and Double Dare You. Its official distributor is the American streaming platform, Netflix.

Finally, in an interview conducted by Vanity Fairthe Mexican director expressed the following:
“For me, it is essential to counter the idea that you have to become a flesh and blood child to be a true human. All you need to be human is to really behave like one, you know? I have never believed that the transformation [debería] be required to win love”.
