Microsoft Surface Duo 2 Review: The Most Expensive smartphone

Microsoft Surface Duo 2 review, Microsoft Surface Duo 2 price

As the smallest model of the new Surface lineup, Microsoft presented a new Surface Duo 2 yesterday. The foldable comes again without a foldable display, but finally with hardware that matches the price. This is once again set very high at 1,599 euros. Let’s check a short Surface Duo 2 Review by TechMarkup.

  • Surface Duo 2 comes with Snapdragon 888 and triple camera
  • Like the Z Fold 3, the Foldable supports an optional stylus
  • Prices start at 1,599 euros and go on sale on October 21

Microsoft is currently preparing for the launch of the new Windows 11 operating system! For this purpose, the company presented new devices on September 22, 2021. In addition to the new Surface Pro 8 and a very interesting Surface Laptop Studio, there was also a new Surface Duo 2. As a reminder: With the Surface Duo, Microsoft introduced a foldable a few months ago that uses two screens instead of a foldable display.

Microsoft continues to rely on the concept with two screens and equips the foldable with Android 11 ex-works. The powerful Snapdragon 888 is used as the SoC, with 8 gigabytes of RAM. You can choose between 128 gigabytes, 256 gigabytes and 512 gigabytes as internal storage.

Display stylus compatible and new triple camera

The two screens, which are closed inside the foldable, each measure 5.8 inches. OLED is used as the display technology and the resolution is 1,344 x 1,892 pixels. The Surface Duo 2 is more interesting for professional use thanks to the new support for an optional stylus. Fortunately, this refers to all generations of the new Slim Pen, the Surface Pen, and the Surface Hub 2 Pen. You can attach this magnetically to the back of the foldable and the concept seems a bit better than that of the competitor Samsung. Because on the Z Fold 3 there are no mounting options for the appropriate stylus.

Microsoft has also improved the smartphone’s camera. A triple camera is used on the back, which consists of a 12-megapixel main camera, a 12-MP telecamera, and a 12-MP wide-angle camera. The front camera, which sits in the display edge of the right screen, also has a resolution of 12 megapixels.

Although the foldable only measures an ultra-thin 5.5 millimeters when opened, Microsoft has placed a battery with 4449 mAh in the case. This should ensure a battery life of up to 15.5 hours of video playback. Quick-Charging runs at 23 watts, but Microsoft does not reveal how fast it can be charged.

Microsoft Surface Duo 2 Price & availability

As already mentioned, the foldable starts at a price of 1,599 euros. What is meant, of course, is the version with 128 gigabytes of internal memory. If you need more storage space, you have to pay either 1,699 euros for 256 gigabytes or 1,899 euros for the 512-gigabyte version. Microsoft has thus secured space for the most expensive smartphone, which was presented in September 2021 – and knocked the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 1 terabyte for 1,829 euros from the throne.

Since sales will not start until October 21, you have to pre-order the Surface Duo 2 by then. As soon as we hear of contract offers, you will find them on our overview page for Microsoft Surface Duo 2!
