Meta advances in the inclusion of NFTs on Instagram

However, Mark Zuckerberg did not reveal too many details in his speech. Of course, It is known that the integration of non-fungible tokens is in development; though for now, the Instagram team is focusing on fixing some glitches along the way.

In mid-January this year, the Financial Times commented that Meta has plans related to NFT. According to his report, Facebook and Instagram will become “places where users will be able to create and sell these digital assets.” Now the next destination of one of them has been fixed.

In Zuckerberg’s aforementioned speech at SXSW, he mentioned the following: “We are working to bring NFTs to Instagram in the short term. Today I am not ready to announce exactly what it will be, but in the coming months you will have the possibility to bring some of your NFTs. And over time you will be able to lie within that environment.”

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, hinted at the arrival of NFT on the platform. In December 2021, the executive assured that the company was “exploring” the possibility; hoping to reach a larger audience. “I think it is an interesting place that we can explore to help the creators”, Mosseri mentioned back then.

However, now it seems that the company has made up its mind. The next step will be adapt this new market to a platform like Instagram.

Also, in the summer of 2021, Instagram celebrated “creator week”. At, the company sponsored a private event for creators committed to NFTas announced in the invitation designed for the conference.

Meta does not want to lose track of other social networks

During the nearly 50-minute conversation, Mark Zuckerberg spent most of the time talking about his metaverse. In fact, one of the points that the CEO mentions is the metaverse’s ability to convert almost anything into a non-fungible token. Meta’s digital universe is full of digital assets and users have already started selling homes in their virtual stores.

“I hope that the clothes your avatar wears in the Metaverse can be minted as NFTs and you can wear them between different places,” said Mark Zuckerberg.

Thus, the NFTs that can be acquired in the future on Instagram or Facebook can become “functional” objects in the virtual world of the company. Meta’s plan to bring NFT to both social media It’s nothing new, of course. If users are following company news, they may know that it is an open secret. However, many anti-NFT and Meta people may not like the news.

These two platforms are not the only ones considered to include NFT in their functions. Twitterfor example, has allowed use of NFT images as profile images for users with subscriptions to Twitter Blue; Alternative to use the premium social network.
