“Megalopolis”, the new film by Francis Ford Coppola, adds Adam Driver and a prestigious cast

The Godfather celebrated 50 years since its theatrical release. Among the celebrations, they released a remastered version of the work on the big screen, but they also presented the entire improved trilogy in digital format, physical editions and added it to the catalog of Paramount+. This platform, in turn, premiered the series The offer, which tells how the film was made. What for many is the best film in history was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, a director who worked on a play for the last 20 years and finally presented the cast of Megalopolis.

This Thursday, the production of Coppola’s next film, announced the main cast: Adam Driver (starwars), Forest Whitaker (the last king of scotland), Nathalie Emmanuel (game of Thrones) , Jon Voight (Fire against fire) and Laurence Fishburne (Matrix Trilogy), will be the stars of Megalopolis. According to the Deadline site, Coppola is working on his next work with independent financing and with his own script. The budget is around 100 million dollars and work would begin in the second half of the year.

“The fate of Rome lies in wait for a modern world unable to solve its own social problems. The film is an epic of political ambition and conflicting interests”, they describe the plot of the film. Deadline’s report details that an architect wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia after a devastating disaster. According to details that Coppola gave in an interview, the intention is to leave a work for the next generations that serves both as an optimistic message for society, but also as an initiator of debates on political power, education, etc.

Francis Ford Coppola was in this position in 2001, with Megalopolis about to start production, but the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers made it stop since it seemed misplaced to tell the story of a man who wanted to rebuild the city after a catastrophic event. Over the years, and with little help from the production companies that began to support other types of projects more linked to large franchises, the director decided to use his money to access financing.
