Who is Malama?

Juan Luis Londono Ariasbetter known under the name of Malumais a renowned Colombian musician born on January 28, 1994 in Medellín.

Maluma’s name is made up of the first two words of his family’s names: his mother’s name is Marlli Arias; his father, Luis Alfonso Londoño; and her older sister, Manuela.

Maluma is a sports fan, especially soccer, a sport he practiced for eight years in a row where he occupied the lower divisions in the Atlético Nacional and Equidad Club Deportivo teams.

Passionate about music, a passion that little by little was made known both at home and at school, where he had his first contact with the public. Were his fellow students, who in a singing contest heard his voice in the song ” Tengo gana “, by the singer-songwriter Andrés Cepeda and they awarded the first place without problems.

At the age of 15, Maluma composed a song titled “I do not want”which surprised musical producers who proposed to record an albumasking him to use a more sonorous name, easy to remember and accepted by the followers of the urban genre.

This is how the idea of taking the first syllable of the names of the most significant people in his family was born: Marlli, his mother; Luis, her father and Manuela, her older sister. At that moment, Maluma is born.

Maluma rose to fame in his native country in 2011. His debut album, Magia (2012), was commercially successful in Colombia and a year later was nnominated for a Latin Grammy for Best New Artist.
