the animated film Lightyear brought back to the cinema the successful franchise of toy story with a different approach, since now we know the true cinematographic face that inspired the remembered toy of the movies of pixar. In addition to Buzz, this adventure through the galaxy introduces us to new characters who join the space ranger on an almost impossible mission. Who is it about?
Buzz Lightyear (Chris Evans)
The actor, known for bringing to life the Captain America, lends his voice to this version of the astronaut who seeks to bring his commander and crew home when they crash land on a hostile planet. In addition to his role in the Cinematic Universe of Marvelwe have seen Evans act in productions such as Between knives and secrets, Snowpiercer, The fantastic four, Before we partamong others.
Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba)
This is the commanding officer of buzz lightyear and, at the same time, her best friend and closest confidant. She belongs to the original team that gets stranded in this unknown place in the galaxy. Alisha’s voice is performed by Aduba, who rose to fame for her performance in Orange is the New BlackNetflix’s dramatic comedy. Previously, she has done other voice roles for Steven Universe Y Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.
Izzy Hawthorne as Keke Palmer
She is Alisha’s granddaughter who becomes Buzz’s companion on his mission, though her lack of skills and experience will be a drawback for the protagonist. For this role, she relied on the voice of Palmer. The actress became known from a very young age for starring in True Jackson, VPa comedic teen series on Nickelodeon, and later joined the casts of Hustlers, Scream Queens, Berlin Station and more films. Soon she will appear in nopeby Jordan Peele.
Sox (Peter Sonn)
This little robot cat was a gift from Alisha to Buzz and plays a crucial role in his mission to save his companions. Sohn gives the voice to the cute robotic animal and, in fact, has a long experience working as a voice actor and animator in pixar (Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Wall-E, Coco, Souletc)
Emperor Zurg (James Brolin)
Another actor from Marvel also participates in Lightyear. After being the fearsome Thanos in the MCU, Brolin (also Cable in dead pool) changes context and transforms into the villain of Buzz’s story: Zurg. This character debuted on the big screen with toy story 2where his toy version shows up to confront the space hero.
Mo Morrison (Taika Waititi)
The New Zealand actor and filmmaker never misses the opportunity to bring hilarious characters to life with just his voice, something we’ve already seen him do in The Mandalorian. This time, he plays one of Izzy’s galactic team looking to take down Zurg and help Buzz on his mission. The Oscar winner is known for his work as a director on What We Do In The Shadows, Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit and, in July this year, will present Thor: Love and Thunder.
Darby Steel (Dale Soules)
She is the oldest member of Izzy’s crew and is also an ex-con with the ability to create bombs out of absolutely nothing. She is voiced by Soules, who is best known as Frieda Berlin in Orange is the New Black and for his appearances in The Messengers, Motherhood Y The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
Commander Burnside (Isiah Whitlock Jr.)
Burnside is the one who replaces Alisha when she and her recruits are trapped on an unknown planet. Whitlock Jr. is known for his roles in television series as Veep, The Mist Y Lucky 7.
Lightyear premiered on June 16 in theaters in Latin America.
