Leonard Bernstein’s family defends Bradley Cooper’s nose in ‘Master’ from internet criticism

earlier this week Netflix decided to post the trailer for Teacher. This is a film that has been cooking for a long time, based on the admiration that people like Martin Scorsese either Steven Spielberg shared by leonard bernsteinand that Bradley Cooper took to the end directing, co-writing the film and reserving the lead role. Teachernot so much a biopic as a review of Bernstein’s relationship with his wife Felicia Montealegre (here carey mulligan) is the great bet of Netflix for the next oscar.

The film has been selected to be screened at the new york festivalarriving from November 22th to selected cinemas, and finally joining the Netflix catalog on December 20th. However, what should be an old-fashioned awards campaign has been marred by criticism and mockery of Cooper’s characterization as the musician. Specifically, because of his big nose, which has led to the questioning of possible anti-Semitism towards Bernstein (and also that a non-Jew might play a Jew).

Instead of those involved openly defending Teacherthese have allowed the task to be borne by the family of the musician who died in 1990. Thus, the children of Bernstein (Jamie, Alexander and Nina Bernstein) have issued a statement in which they defend Cooper’s vision, and attack the need for social networks to criticize everything for the worst reasons. “Bradley Cooper included all three of us in every step of his incredible journey while making his film about our father. It moved us to the core to witness the depth of his commitment, his loving embrace of our father’s music, and the open-hearted joy he brought to its exploration.”

“It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentation or misunderstanding about your efforts. It is true that he had nice big nose. Bradley opted to wear makeup to amplify their resemblance, and we agreed. We’re also sure our father would have been okay with it. Any strident complaint Regarding this issue, it seems to us, above all, a bad attempt to put someone down, a practice that we observe all too often perpetrated against our own father, ”the Bernstein children continue.

“At any point in the makeup of this film we could feel the deep respect and yes, love that Bradley contributed to his portrait of Leonard Bernstein and his wife, our mother Felicia. We feel so lucky to have had this experience with Bradley, and we can’t wait for the world to see his creation.” The controversy would be settled in this way, although everything indicates that the subject of the nose will mark from now on the prize race of Teacher.
