Kindle Rival: HiSense Touch Lite Announced With E-Ink Display, Stereo Sound, Android

Two months after the promise of the announcement, HiSense is finally making its book reader with e-ink screen official: the Touch Lite, which comes with support for music playback and Android, allowing you to perform various tasks with it, becoming a strong competitor to Amazon’s Kindle.

Starting with the screen, the Touch Lite comes with a 5.84-inch black and white e-ink display with technology similar to the Kindle, which allows saving energy and is ideal for reading for long hours and has color temperature control. The resolution is HD with 1440 x 720 pixels and 287 PPI.

The multimedia suite also includes support for 32-bit/384 KHz audio in AAC for the stereo speaker system. There’s even a 3.5mm jack and Bluetooth 5.1 for headphones, while the HiSense Touch Lite is recharged via USB-C.

Speaking of recharging, the book reader has a 3,000mAh battery that promises a long life thanks to the e-ink screen. Storage is 64GB while RAM is 2GB paired with a Qualcomm quad-core processor. The system is based on Android 11. There is only one front camera for face unlock.

HiSense Touch Lite is currently available on AliExpress for US$299 or R$1,616.78 in direct conversion via the official store. It is worth mentioning that the device is only available directly in China, so you have to import it, which can create additional costs with customs duties and taxes.

HiSense, a Chinese manufacturer of home appliances and electronics, announced this week that it will launch on May 11, Wednesday, a new smartphone model with features intended for the consumption of digital books, a device that shares similarities with e-readers, but that promises to bring greater versatility.

According to the company, the device is focused on being portable and offering visual comfort during readings both outdoors and indoors. thanks to the use of the e-ink screen, a component that equips the Kindle line — and other digital readers — and does not emit light, technology ideal for reading.

According to information, the monochrome screen will be 6.7 inches with a pixel density of 300 ppi and 84% utilizationa set that must be one of the great differentials of the Hi Reader, the name given to the product, when compared to competitors in the same category, mainly Amazon readers.

As for the internal hardware, the phone will come equipped with the Ziguang Zhanrui T610 chipset — octa-core with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz — and 4 GB of RAM for background processes, as well as 64 GB for internal storage that can be used to save digital books or apps.

Interestingly, the Hi Reader should run Android 10 operating system instead of manufacturer software. It is not clear whether the features and functions offered will be the same as those of a common cell phone, but it is expected that this version will bring more adaptations beyond the screen.
