The Serie This England, which was originally going to be named after This Sceptred Isleis scheduled to premiere on the chain Sky by the end of this year. Kenneth Brangh, actor and director of countless films (last year he was nominated for the film Belfast), donned the suit of the former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

The latest news of last week cast doubt on the course of history, when the man, weakened in his power by the resignation of almost all his ministers (more than 50 in two days), decided to decline his post and ceased to be the highest authority within the politics of his country.

However, this fact will not be portrayed in the series as reported in the publication. Variety. This England, which has a final trailer, is almost ready, so it will not include Johnson’s resignation. Surely there will be some mention at the end of the episodes with some legend that tells how everything was triggered, but in principle, This England will focus on the role of the prime minister during the explosion of the pandemic when the country experienced the lock down (Like so many other nations around the world).

In fact the series will only cover what happened during the first wave of COVID-19 in 2020. The director of fiction Michael Winterbottom (The Trip, 24 Hour Party People), affirmed that it is in the process of post-production, with which the fiction can surely be seen before the end of the year and with a new minister in Downing Street 10. “The first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic will be remembered forever”, affirmed the creator in the presentation of the series and added: “A moment in which the country came together to fight against an invisible enemy. A time when people were more aware than ever of the importance of community. Our series weaves together countless true stories, from Boris Johnson to frontline workers across the country, chronicling the scientific and medical efforts to protect us from the virus.”, he recounted winterbottom.

In the trailer you can hear how Branagh in the skin of Johnson predicts during a speech on the eve of the beginning of 2020 that “uA new dawn is approaching. 2020 will be a year of prosperity”. Nothing is further from reality.

winterbottom In addition to being the director of the series, he is also a screenwriter and for this work he had the advice of the specialist in politics of the English newspaper Sunday Times, Tim Shipman. Together they elaborated this story that we will see in This England which “takes us into the corridors of power, as Johnson deals with the effects of COVID-19, Brexit, and a personal and political life marked by controversy,” added the director.
