Are you a fan of movies with a futuristic touch and Korean productions? A new Netflix feature film might be a good fit for you. Released over the weekend, the new sci-fi, Jung_E arrived on the platform with great popularity: shortly after launch, the production has already reached the top of the list of most watched films in Brazil on the platform.
The film is written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho and presents a post-apocalyptic universe, where the Earth has been devastated and humans live in orbit, in seasons that resemble the game Halo. The film stars a researcher at an artificial intelligence laboratory, who leads the effort to end a civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier, who was her mother in life.
Bringing themes like artificial intelligence and Boston Dynamics-style robots, but extremely lethal, the feature film draws attention already in the trailer, thanks to its futuristic and action-packed look.
How is the reception of the film?
Netflix’s feature film is dividing public opinion: while some users of the social network Letterboxd are loving the production, others are finding it to be Jung_E it is “more of the same”, without innovating in anything. This polarization can also be seen in the IMDB evaluation note, which accounted for 5.4 stars by the two thousand voters. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 64% approval rating from audiences and critics, in a rare case of “unanimity” on the ratings aggregator.

Critics’ biggest complaint is the “unoriginal” plot. What keeps the audience in front of the screen, according to critics, is the emotional appeal between mother and daughter, as well as the various explosive fight scenes.
Kim Hyun Joo’s acting as Jung-E it is the most praised point in the reviews. According to critics, the actress manages to bring emotion and feeling to an artificial intelligence that still has the memories of the soldier who was her inspiration.
Even with the lukewarm reception in the notes, the work is present in the 10 most watched films on Netflix in Brazil, which demonstrates the public’s interest in the production.
