Johnny Depp and Amber Heard reach agreement and end legal dispute

A few months ago, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard won the spotlight again, but it wasn’t because of new movies in the cinema. The reasons, in fact, revolved around some legal processes, brought by both parties. While Depp sued Heard for defamation (due to an article published in The Washington Post) and asked for $50 million in damages, the aquaman filed a lawsuit against the star of Pirates of the Caribbean for abuse and violence worth $100 million.

And, in case you didn’t know, here’s some context: after they met on the set of the movie Diary of a Drunk Journalist (2011), the two started a romantic relationship and got married in 2015. The marriage ended in 2017, however, after several controversies involving physical and psychological abuse, betrayal and lies.

Well, after a long trial, the jury found in favor of Johnny Depp. For this, Amber Heard had to pay $ 15 million to the actor. However, despite having won the lawsuit, Depp also had to pay $ 2 million to his ex (amount referring to compensation for moral damages).

At the end of the case, Heard said that he would appeal and that he would continue in the fight. “I don’t blame them. I really understand. He’s a beloved character and people feel like they know him,” she said of the jury.

However, new developments show that, in fact, the judicial conflict is over, with the two actors entering into an agreement. The information was confirmed by Depp to the Deadline website through a statement, which reveals that there was an understanding between the parties and that the artist will pay US$ 1 million to her ex-husband, who intend to donate the amount to different institutions. “We are happy to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made it clear during the process that his priority was bringing the truth to light,” reads part of the statement.
