It’s official: ‘Barbie’ is the highest grossing film in Warner’s history ahead of ‘Harry Potter’

Finally, the magic of humorous (and pink) feminism has been stronger than the wands of the Hogwarts school. This is the only way to explain the mammoth figure accumulated by Barbie in theaters, an amount that has led it to surpass the very Harry Potter as the highest-grossing title in the history of Warner Bros.
Thanks to $18.2 million accumulated over the weekend in 75 countries, the doll with Robbie’s face has surpassed the $1.4 billion at the international box office.
This puts the film ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, previous record holder. In 2011, the last adventure of Daniel Radcliffe like the character of JK Rowling it took 1,342 million worldwide (without adjusting for inflation).
These figures, it should be noted, not only make Barbie I wet the ear of the magician with glasses. They also place her as a firm candidate to be crowned as highest grossing film of 2023 above Super Mario Bros.: The Movie (1,359 million to date).
Put to remember the other box office phenomenon of the summer, this has also been a great weekend for Oppenheimer: the tape Christopher Nolan has received a ‘nudge’ from $29.1 million in 82 territories. Although their total income, which is close to 800 million dollars (via Variety) are far away from Barbie, they are extraordinary for an adult-rated drama.
Add to this the possible premiere of oppenheimer in China (with a visit by the director to the Asian country as the icing on the cake), and we will conclude that the ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon will continue to give a lot to talk about during 2023. Who knows: Nolan may allow himself to hum I’m Just Ken in privacy to celebrate.
