iPhone 14 Pro: "i" notch may be different than expected thanks to iOS

For months we have seen rumors, renderings and concepts pointing out that the new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would bring an exclusive and different “i” shaped notch to house the Face ID and new front camera. New information released on the eve of the announcement of the iPhone 14 line now points out that the cut may be more uniform than we expected thanks to an iOS feature.

According to information shared by an anonymous source to the site MacRumorsApple could fill the empty space between both notches via software, just erasing the screen pixels in the given region, to form a single, oblong, pill-shaped notch.

That way, instead of having cutouts – one oblong and the other circular – the new iPhone 14 Pro can display a single uniform notch to replace the notch of the iPhone 13 Pro, keeping elements for authentication via Face ID.

Also according to the rumor, Apple could expand the region of the new notch to the sides to display icons, or even extend the black region down to form a square for specific notifications.

Although the idea of joining both notches via software is a very palpable possibility, there is no way to guarantee that the information is concrete, and it is necessary to wait for details that reinforce such indications or wait until the launch of the new smartphones.

New 6.7-inch version should be called iPhone 14 Plus

Another rumor points out that the new cheaper model with a 6.7-inch screen should be called iPhone 14 Plus instead of iPhone 14 Max. The goal, as we theorized a few months ago, should be to further distance the base duo from the premium duo.

The above photo shared on Twitter by user “Tommy Boi” (@tommyboiiiiii) shows the supposed transparent MagSafe case of the device. With the 6.7″ model replacing the Mini version with a 5.4″ screen, we expect Apple’s new smartphone lineup to look like this:

  • iPhone 14 with 6.1 inch screen. and wide notch
  • iPhone 14 Plus with 6.7 inch screen. and wide notch
  • iPhone 14 Pro with 6.1 inch screen. and pill notch
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max with 6.7 inch screen. and pill notch
