- All devices are equipped with the new A15 Bionic SoC
- You can pre-order on Friday, September 17th
As part of the “California Streaming” event, Apple CEO Tim Cook presented the new smartphones for 2021. The expectations of the tech press and the company’s fans were largely met. Below you will find the news about the individual models.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini specs
Like the previous generation, the new iPhone 13 and 13 mini come with an OLED screen and a notch that is 12% smaller than the previous generation. The Super Retina display is 28% brighter and offers up to 1,200 nits compared to its predecessor.
The big highlight is the new A15 Bionic processor. According to the company, the SoC is 50% faster than the leading competitor (Apple probably means Qualcomm here) and offers 30% more graphics performance. In addition to better performance, energy efficiency has also been optimized.
The chip, based on a 5 nm architecture, enables more efficient handling of Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. As always, processing takes place directly on the device.
The camera is equipped with a dual-camera module. The 12-megapixel wide-angle lens has an aperture of f / 1.6, the 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens has an aperture of f / 2.4 and a field of view of 120 °. In addition, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 models have been equipped with the image stabilization of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. In other words: We get videos with pro smartphone stability in the standard models, as the wide-angle sensor avoids vibrations.
When it comes to video, the iPhone 13 now has the “Cinematic Mode“, which offers a recording function in the best movie scene style and makes the iPhone’s camera even more versatile. Just start recording and it will focus automatically and in real time. The demo during the presentation was really impressive.
When it comes to the battery, there has been a change in size and lifespan compared to previous generations. Now the iPhone 13 mini lasts up to 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Mini, while the iPhone 13 lasts 2.5 hours more. Apple has also expanded the MagSafe accessory system, with multi-chargers, bags, wallets and power banks.
The new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini were announced today at prices starting at € 799 for the mini model and € 899 for the traditional model, with storage options of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max specs
The more heavily equipped models in the new series are, of course, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The former has a 6.1-inch screen, the latter a 6.7-inch display – so everything is the same here. The Pro models are available in four colors: graphite, gold, silver and the new Sierra blue. They are also more robust and come with a 20% smaller camera module than the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.
The display of the new devices uses Super Retina XDR technology and offers the ProMotion function, which adjusts the refresh rate between 10 and 120 Hertz – depending on the content and touch speed of the user.
Like the standard versions, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are also powered by the A15 Bionic SoC, but with a graphics processor that, according to Apple, offers 30% better graphics performance than the leading competitor.
For the cameras, we have a completely new system with three cameras, 12 megapixels, and the LiDAR sensor. A wide-angle lens, another ultra-wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens for 3x zoom, so that all three cameras offer 6x optical zoom. Apple promises better photo quality in low light thanks to the larger sensor and the larger aperture. In addition, all three cameras have a night mode and a new macro mode has been integrated with which objects can be recorded from a distance of up to 2 cm.
A highlight of the camera is the “Photograph Styles” function, with which the images can be edited in real-time and optimized by adapting them to scenes and motifs. This feature is also available on the iPhone 13.
The iPhone 13 Pro also records videos at up to 4K / 30fps in ProRes, a high-quality video format that gives you more control over video editing in post-production.
As for the battery, the iPhone 13 Pro offers 1.5 hours more runtime than the previous model, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max can last up to 2.5 hours more than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The new iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max were announced today at prices starting at € 1,149 and € 1,249, respectively. As recently leaked, there is also a 1TB storage option. The models will be available for pre-order from this Friday and will hit the market on September 24th.
