Instagram is testing a new “timely” feature with some users for hashtags, which will allow you to see the photos with the most “likes” or Reels related to the tag. According to the company Goal, this modality allows combine “recent and timely content”.
Through a post on their Twitter account, the Meta platform said that they are testing new things that include seeing most popular posts, while you are removing the “Recents” option.
“We want to see if this helps people connect with more interesting and relevant content on hashtags, while keeping them informed about what’s hot,” the platform said of this test feature.
When searching for a hashtag, three sections appear: “Featured”, “Recent” and “Reels”. With the new modality there will only be two options: “Highlights” and “Reels”.
That is, it will give preference to the most popular posts, leaving recent posts that do not have reach below, making it difficult to see new content and making it difficult for users to be seen.
Hashtags had been introduced at its inception to help stand out or have fun being part of the trends of the moment, however, now they are used for visibility on the platform, and consequently to have more likes, comments and followers.
This version will be in a trial period to see if it is implemented in all users. Instagram will review whether users prefer to see new posts, regardless of their reach, or just want to see popular content.
It is worth remembering that other platforms have looked for ways to make their users interact with more content.
For example, Twitter made a change in the algorithm so that users see the tweets in a certain timeline, but not being to their liking, they reversed the mode.
Instagram feed control
This past March, the Meta platform added new modalities to review the feed or home page to favor navigation and influencers. through the tab “Favorites” and “Following”, instagramers can shape your experience.
It will show the publications of the selected accounts in chronological order. In other words, you can choose your favorite accounts from which you don’t want to lose any content.
Up to 50 accounts can be added to the list and changes can be made at any time; people are not notified when they are added or removed. The publications of accounts in the favorites list will also show up higher in the Home Feed, and are displayed with a star icon.
“Get up to speed quickly with the accounts you care about most, starting with the most recent posts.”
It will show posts only from people who follow each other. “See the latest posts from the accounts you follow, in the order they were posted.”
Both Favorites and Following will display posts in chronological order, so you can quickly catch up on recent posts.
How to use them
In the case of Home, nothing needs to be changed, since, as mentioned above, it will always be displayed that way. On the other hand, to use Favorites and Following, you must touch where it says Instagram in the upper left corner of the home page to choose what you want to see.
“Everyone uses Instagram differently and we hope these options can help people decide what works best for them,” the Meta platform noted.
According to an analysis that Instagram conducted, users are happier when there is an algorithmically ranked Feed, so they are no longer making a standard of a chronological Feed that will help not miss certain posts.
