Instagram backs off and announces it will withdraw TikTok-like feed changes

This Thursday (28), the Instagram announced that it has suspended changes to its feed that showed full screen videos, very similar to what happens in TikTok. The social network has been testing this change since May with some users.

According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, in an interview with the “Platformer” newsletter, the platform will back off from the changes. The measure came after a flurry of criticism from users, including complaints from giant profiles on the network.

“I’m glad we took the risk – if we don’t fail once in a while, we’re not thinking big enough or bold enough,” the exec said of testing the feed with full-screen videos. “But we definitely need to take a big step back and regroup,” Mosseri said.

The head of the social network also said that the main screen of Instagram will also have fewer recommended posts, that is, those from profiles that are not followed by users, but are frequently indicated by the platform.

It is worth noting that the new way of displaying the feed and the recommended posts aimed to hold people’s attention and uses a visual very similar to that of TikTok, which has grown its user base considerably in recent years.

This week, Adam Mosseri acknowledged that TikTok-like test feed needs improvement. This whole situation gained wide repercussion after the influential sisters Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner publicly criticized the changes.

“Make Instagram be Instagram again. Stop trying to be TikTok, I just want to see cute pictures of my friends,” reads one of the posts.

Well, it looks like Instagram is going to be Instagram again…
