How to Unlock iPhone without Passcode (Forgot Passcode)

There are different ways to unlock an iPhone. But if you decide to rely on biometrics, then you will definitely need to set a numeric code. However, precisely, if you have forgotten this code, there are no less than two solutions to unlock your phone.

Be careful though, because these will have the same effect on your phone: they will cause the deletion of its content. However, it will be possible to bring up an old backup to find your data. Provided you have one, of course.

Unlock your iPhone with a computer

The first solution is relatively simple. It involves using a Mac or Windows PC to unlock your iPhone.

To do this, you will need two things: a computer and a cable. After that ? All you have to do is connect your phone to your computer and put your iPhone in DFU mode.

Specifically, here are the steps to follow:

* Since macOS Catalina, iTunes is no longer present on Macs and is directly integrated into the Finder.

Then put your iPhone into DFU mode. If you have an iPhone X or one of the following models, the procedure to follow is relatively simple. You have to turn off the phone, press the volume+ button once, press the volume- button once and then leave the power button pressed until a pictogram appears in the form of a cable and a a computer.

From there, you no longer need to touch your iPhone and you will then have to focus on what is happening on your Mac. Or your Windows PC.

On Mac, just click your iPhone’s name in the sidebar. On the right, two buttons will appear: update and restore iphone. It will of course be necessary to click on the second to launch the restoration of the iPhone. All content on your phone will then be deleted. And after a while, you will see the first start wizard appear. All you have to do is follow all the steps to configure the device and then upload your last backup.

So of course, if you had made a backup just before storing your iPhone, you will find all the files you had at that precise moment. But if this is not the case, then you will probably miss some photos or some videos.

Use the Locate service

Now suppose you have no Mac and no Windows PC. Or more likely you don’t want to bother putting your iPhone into DFU mode.

Well don’t worry, you have a second option: go through the Locate service.

Available in its current form since 2019, the Locate service allows you to track all your Apple devices. His iPhone, of course, but also his iPad, his Mac or even his AirPods. Not to mention the AirTags.

And of course, this service brings together a whole range of tools to enable you to react quickly in the event of loss or theft. Including one in particular that will be very useful to us in case we have forgotten our code.

The latter will actually allow you to remotely erase the content of your iPhone. And therefore to blow up the code that you are lacking. Again, it is important to emphasize that the procedure will have the effect of removing all data present on your device.

If you’re ok with that, grab your iPad, a second iPhone, or even your Mac and launch the Find My app. In the left column, select your iPhone. It will of course be necessary that the latter is under tension. Then look for the option “erase this device”. Apple will ask you to confirm your choice. Do it and just follow the instructions that will appear on the screen.

A few minutes later, your iPhone will be fully cleaned and the usual wizard will start to let you set up your phone. You can then bring up an old backup on it to find your precious files.

This method is quite simple, but it is subject to one condition: it will be necessary to use the same iCloud account as the one configured on the phone.

After that ?

These two methods are not the only ones. There are others. Nevertheless, these are the easiest to implement for the general public. Incidentally, they also show how essential it is to make regular backups. Otherwise, you will indeed lose your photos, videos and documents in the process.
