TikTok delivers a new tool for creators to control who can see their content, in case it is aimed at adults and prevent minors from reaching it.
This function was initially active for Live, but now it is extended to any video, so it will gradually reach all accounts in the world during these first weeks of the year.
Adding this tool will not prevent the application from continuing to implement its control systems. “To be clear: our policies still fully apply to creators using this feature, and we will remove content that contains nudity and other violations of our Community Guidelines,” the platform stated on its official blog.

The decision does not mean that the platform is giving permission to upload videos with nudity or sexual content, but that there are barriers and limitations so that children do not see topics such as depression, difficult life stories and comedy focused on people over 18 years of age.
“Our goal is to quickly identify and remove violative content from our platform and prevent suggestive or borderline content from being recommended or searched for by teen accounts,” the app said.
According to company data, the development of these tools has allowed minors’ accounts to not see more than a million openly sexual videos in the last 30 days.
It is worth remembering that TikTok It allows you to create accounts from the age of 13, so these restrictions are focused on profiles that are between 13 and 17 years old.
All these measures are partly the product of complaints from lawmakers, regulators and parents, who filed a lawsuit last year after a group of children died trying to replicate a challenge that went viral on the app.

Much of the focus for these constraints is in the section For you of the platform, where recommended content appears from accounts that the user does not follow and for this reason topics may not be appropriate for minors.
The app displays these videos based on what has been previously watched and which accounts are followed. From there, the algorithm begins to recommend content that the user might like randomly, also taking into account the location and popularity of certain videos.
Now the platform will explain to people why the content appears in this section through a panel that appears after pressing the ‘share’ button. There the app will give the reasons for the user to make the decision to restrict the topic or continue with those recommendations.
