How to Restart iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Although this is an uncommon situation, it may be necessary to restart an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in some situations, such as when the system becomes unresponsive or when the device is significantly slow. In these circumstances, it is necessary to perform a hard reset of your device.

How to restart iPhone

As of iOS 16, the method for restarting the iPhone has been unified and works for all device models compatible with the system. See below how to perform the procedure:

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button;
  2. Quickly press and release the volume down button;
  3. Press and hold the side button;
  4. After the Apple logo appears on the screen, release the side button.

iPhone with Face ID, iPhone 8, or iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button;
  2. Quickly press and release the volume down button;
  3. Keep the side button pressed;
  4. Release the button when the Apple logo appears.

iPhone 7

  1. Hold down the volume down button and the power button simultaneously;
  2. Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears.

iPhone 6s (or predecessors) or iPhone SE (1st generation)

  1. Hold down the Home button and the Power button simultaneously;
  2. Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears.

  4. Wait for the screen to turn off and the Apple logo to appear;
