A new feature of Google Play Store will allow children, who have an account in the app store, to make purchases but with permission from their parents or whoever is the administrator of their account.

This function will only be available on those devices that have activated Family Link, the parental control alternative that allows adults to manage and limit all access by minors to applications, downloads and purchases.

According to Google, this new feature called “Purchase Requests” will allow responsible adults to manage the purchases of minors without the need for a payment method established as such in the Google Play Store application.

The new Google Play feature is called Purchase Requests and it is being rolled out to Android devices.

How Purchase Requests work

Children can enter the store from their device and request that their parent make an in-app purchase. Parents will receive notification and can decide whether or not to accept that transaction.

In the event that you want to proceed, you can use the payment methods established in your own account without having to activate it as a family option. In these cases it is also possible to make purchases through Google Play Store gift cards.

The company indicated that the requests are received in real time and that it is possible to show more than one at the same time, so that children can make more than one request and parents can accept or reject them as they see fit.

All those that are admitted will be registered in the platform’s History.

Google indicated that the new shopping function is already active and that children who use this method will only be able to do so from the application download platform.

Subscriptions to other app services like books or Google TV are not available for the approval method.

On the other hand, according to the company’s support page, the requests will only be active for those people who have not established the family payment method through Family Link and these cannot be used or the data of the debit cards or credit, will be seen by the children at the time of making a request.

To approve the purchase of a request made by a child in the household from a computer, users can:

– Go to the address g.co/yourfamily

– Select the child’s profile.

– Use the path Controls > Content restrictions > Google Play > Purchase and download approvals.

– In this section you can accept the number of purchase requests you want.
