A few weeks ago the reactions came to WhatsApp. It is a tool that allows you to respond with 6 types of emoji to the comments received in the messaging service. Every time this type of response is received, the user receives a notification.

In case you want to disable that warning, then you have to follow these steps:

1. Open WhatsApp and press on the three vertical points that are in the upper margin next to the magnifying glass symbol, in order to enter the menu of Settings.

2. Click on Settings/Notifications and then disable the option that says Feedback notifications.

In this way, they will stop receiving notifications every time someone reacts with an emoji to the content shared in the different chats.

Just as it is possible to disable reaction notifications, you can also enable the option that says “Notifications in high priority” to display a preview of the notices at the top of the screen. In turn, within the same settings menu it is possible to set the conversation tones or activate the vibration or not. All this is for all messages, beyond reactions.

The psychologist Lara Jones, a professor at Wayne State University in Michigan, who researches on topics that include the perception of valence of emojis, collaborated with the platform to analyze the use of these charts on different platforms.

When this tool was launched worldwide, TechMarkup had the opportunity to speak with the specialist, who shared some thoughts in relation to the type of use that is given to these graphics. “More extroverted people tend to use emojis more often because these images reveal how they feel,” she said.

Regarding the use of the different graphics, he highlighted that the emoji with tears of joy is the most used by users around the world, and is more likely to be used by women than men; while they turn to the thumbs-up icon more frequently, according to a recent survey.

If you don’t want to be added to groups without first having the possibility to accept or deny this option, you have to go to Settings > Accounts/Privacy/Groups. There you can configure who can add the user to the group: anyone (everyone), only your contacts, only certain people or nobody.

In the option “My contacts, except…” is where you can choose which contacts can have the permission to add the person to a group.

If selected “All Contacts” (icon on the top right), no one will be able to add them to the group and this person will have to send a link so that the person receiving the invitation accepts or not.

Archive conversations

The tool archive conversations allows you to save certain chats in a section, outside the main feed. To activate this tool, you have to select the conversation in question (it can be private or group) and then click on the icon of a square with a downward arrow that appears in the upper margin.

To access this section of conversations, simply enter the Archived option that appears in the upper margin of the main feed, just above all the conversations. It should be noted that if any archived chat receives a new message, the conversation will return to the main screen.

So that this does not happen, and the chat remains archived, then you have to do the following: enter the menu of Settings/Chats and then activate the option that says Keep chats archived.
