Since May 2022, the company’s intention to implement a registry of these sounds in android devices, but no details were known about its arrival as functionality on one of the platforms. The medium 9to5google indicated that the cough and snoring function will be part of the “bedtime mode” (time to sleep) thanks to a revision of the source code of the latest beta version Digital Wellbeing (version 1.2.x) : “See how much you cough or snore during your scheduled bedtime,” reads.

This option must be activated manually because it will be necessary to grant the application special permission to use the microphone and to be able to analyze the noises that occur while the user is sleeping.

Other options that appear as available in the beta version of Digital Wellbeing is the customization of the system to establish a dark mode and the possibility of activating a mode of “Do not disturb”.

In order to establish a more accurate record, the Digital Wellbeing feature will be able to “track the time you spend in front of the screen and [mostrar] estimates of time spent in bed” as “based on the time your phone was stationary in a dark room,” according to 9to5google.

Both the sounds of coughing and snoring will appear together with information related to the use of applications in Digital Wellbeing in an overview chart of the week. An “average cough counter” will also be offered, “average snoring time” and the user will be notified when these sounds have not occurred during scheduled sleep hours.

At the moment it is not known if these functions will reach all smartphones with Android operating system or it will be an exclusive to Google’s Pixel phones. The bedtime function has been visually modified for the new android 13so the arrival of these health features could accompany the update to the new version of the operating system.
