Honor’s first foldable: Honor Magic V announced in fold-style

To celebrate its first anniversary of independence from Huawei, Honor has teased its own foldable. The new smartphone will be called “Honor Magic V”. The company posted a picture on its Twitter and Weibo accounts showing a half-folded device without giving too many details.

  • Honor has previewed its first foldable smartphone.
  • Rumor has it that the device will be similar to Huawei’s Mate X range.
  • The Honor Magic V will come with flagship specs and will “be released soon”.

Official Realme GT 2 launch at the beginning of January as a premium flagship

Honor already showed the first picture of the new smartphone in his Twitter post. And although the former Huawei subsidiary has not yet published a foldable, there is talk of the company’s “first foldable flagship”. The tweet thus suggests that Honor’s new smartphone could be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

In the Weibo post, the brand announced that the device “will be released soon,” without giving details of an expected launch date. According to George Zhao, Honor’s CEO, the Magic V will be a “Leading Foldable in 2022”.

Latest Snapdragon processor onboard?

According to the Leaker Digital Chat Station, the Magic V is not only equipped with the Snapdragon 8g1 SoC, but it should also come onto the market in January 2022. Back in September, the same profile was posted that the device will have a form factor similar to the Mate X2, with an inward-folding screen. Just like the Galaxy Z Fold series and the recently unveiled Foldable from Oppo.

One can only hope that this is not simply a rebranding of the Mate X2 that brings with it at least updated specifications, as the Magic 3 series did over the Mate 40 models. Speaking of Honor’s former parent company: Huawei will show its first compact foldable on December 23, which is called the P50 Pocket. It will have a similar camera module design to that of the Honor 50 / HuaweiNova 9 siblings.
