Harry Potter and Batman actor Gary Oldman announces retirement

Maybe the name isn’t that familiar, but you’ve definitely seen it in some big Hollywood production. we are talking about Gary Oldman, actor who played, for example, the character Sirius Black in the Harry Potter saga, and Jim Gordon (Commissioner Gordon) in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

After years in the cinema and several successes, the English actor announced that he will retire very soon. In an interview with the Times of London, Oldman revealed that he should stop working after the end of Slow Horses, a new Apple TV + series.

“I’ve had a wonderful career, but careers end, and there are other things that interest me besides acting. When you’re young, you think you can do everything – read that book – and then ten years go by”, he reflected.

“I’ll be 65 next year, 70 is almost there. I don’t want to be active at 80. I would be very happy and honored to retire as Jackson Lamb (his character in Slow Horses)”, he concluded.

The Apple TV+ series, which may be Oldman’s last production, premiered its first season in April, and returns for a second season this December.

“This insightful drama follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents – and their arrogant boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb – as they navigate the mysteries and illusions of the world of espionage to protect England from sinister forces,” reads the official synopsis of the work.

Gary Oldman Career

The English actor won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2018 for The Destiny of a Nation, a film in which he played Winston Churchill. But his career had already stood out well before, as he played, for example, the characters Sirius Black, Harry Potter’s uncle, from JK Rowling’s saga, and Jim Gordon, from Christopher Nolan’s beloved Batman trilogy.

Now, in addition to starring in the series Slow Horsesthe artist will also work with Nolan again, this time on the film Oppenheimer, which will have Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) as the lead actor. Other than that, we’ll have to wait and see if Oldman actually leaves the picture, or not.
