Scheduled to open on May 5, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is already easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The new Marvel project will again have James Gunn in the direction (even though he has taken over as head of the DC studios) and much of its original cast, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista.

Bautista, however, who recently participated in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, from Netflix, revealed that, Thepost Guardians of the Galaxy 3, will not return to the role of Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The actor spoke more about the decision in an interview with GQ magazine.

“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [que acabou]. It wasn’t all so nice. It was difficult to be in that role. The makeup process was wearing me out. And I don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic things.”
In total, Bautista brought Drax to life for almost 10 years in 7 different projects within the MCU. This was the role that launched him in Hollywood and opened several doors for the artist. Later, he participated in Dune, Army of the Dead: Invasion in Las Vegas, the aforementioned Glass Onion and will still be in Knock at the Cabin, by M. Night Shyamalan.
The Drax actor was also keen to stress that age is starting to wear him down in certain ways. Which would make him more cautious and critical of which jobs to accept. “I’ll be 54 when Guardians of the Galaxy 3 comes out, and this shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me… the journey is over and I’m ready to retire,” he said.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the actor is looking for more dramatic roles, as he himself mentioned. Something he has achieved and, by all indications, it has everything to work out, since Bautista has done well in his most recent feature films.
It remains for us to wait to know what will happen to Drax after Bautista leaves.
