“Grey’s Anatomy” renewed for season 20

By all indications, the longest-running drama in TV history will continue to perpetuate its medical stories: “Greys’s Anatomy” has been renewed for a 20th season, Variety reports . According to the portal, the program will continue even after important departures, such as Ellen Pompeo , Meredith Grey, and Kelly McCreary, who lived with her sister Maggie Pierce.

  • In addition to Pompeo and McCreary, Krista Vernoff, the series’ executive producer, also left the show in January of this year;
  • Currently, the 19th season of the ABC series is airing — its final episode will air on May 18th;
  • According to ABC, the production is averaging 10.7 million viewers per episode across all platforms — a success given the time the series has endured.

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs since 2005 and Ellen Pompeo lived Dr. Meredith Gray throughout the show’s sprawling 19 seasons. In November last year, however, the final goodbye came, with the actress communicating that she would now focus on other projects.

The vast majority of original cast members actually left the production over the years. Only Pompeo (Meredith), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber) have participated in all seasons of the series so far.

The premiere of the second part of the 19th season took place on February 23 in the USA, with the seventh episode “I will follow the sun”, in free translation. A promotional video for the return of “Grey’s Anatomy” after the hiatus had already shown what Meredith’s departure from Seattle would be like.

According to the episode, the surgeon character’s destination is Boston. Meredith moves in with her daughter Zola (Aniela Gumbs) after receiving an offer to work with Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), another character who dropped out of the main roster to appear only as a guest eventually.

Pompeo negotiated his appearance for just eight episodes of season 19. She must return now in the last one and will continue only as a producer. The actress will also continue to narrate all episodes of the 19th season and it is possible that she will continue to conduct this in future seasons – such as the just announced one.
