streetview, the tool Google that allows people to navigate and discover different parts of the world in 360º, turns 15 years old and introduces new features that are available to help users continue exploring and learning more about the planet, as reported by the company in a released statement.
what’s new
Google started testing a new camera It takes all the power, resolution and processing capabilities that have been built into the Street View car to transform it into a system that can be taken to remote islands or to the tops of mountains.
The camera, which weighs just under 7 kilos, will make it possible to take images in traditionally under-mapped areas, such as the Amazon rainforest.
Besides, another of the novelties that are presented within the framework of the 15th anniversary is the possibility of seeing historical images from certain places on mobile devices. This option until now was only available on desktop computers and can be accessed by following the steps mentioned in this note.

Artificial intelligence is a key driver for the various tools that are being incorporated into the platform, helping hundreds of people to explore the world from a more immersive perspective.
Recently, in the Google I/Oit was announced the new “immersive view” functionality, through which people will be able to experience what a neighborhood, an emblematic place, a restaurant or a popular place is like, and even transport themselves there before actually knowing it.
For anyone traveling to a new destination or discovering their city, this feature will help make informed decisions. It will be available on all devices and mobile phones in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo by the end of the year, with more cities to come.
The history of Street View
Google Street View was born 15 years ago as an idea of Larry Page, co-founder of Google, who wanted to build a virtual map of the entire world. The project came to life in 2007 with the first images from San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, Miami and Denver in the United States.
Today, Street View is present in more than 100 countries and territories. In turn, in the last 15 years alone, more than 16 million kilometers have been traveled and more than 200 billion images have been collected.

Street View is also a very useful tool for creating maps: having up-to-date information about the world lays the groundwork for a more immersive and intuitive map. In this sense, in order to obtain images of spaces that cannot be entered by car, Google developed various types of equipment with higher resolution and larger aperture sensors to improve the quality of the images that are captured.
What are the most visited countries on Street View? During the last year, the country most visited by users on the platform was Indonesia, followed by the United States and Japann. The ranking of the 10 most frequented countries is completed by Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Taiwan, France and the United Kingdom. Argentina occupies the 11th place, and is above others such as Turkey and Thailand.
Taking the same period of time, Jakarta was the most visited city in Street View. It is followed by Tokyo and Mexico City, which occupy the second and third place respectively.. Buenos Aires is in fifth place, behind Saint Paul and with more visitors than New York. Istanbul, Taipei, Paris and Osaka are the rest of the most visited cities in the world on the platform.
