Google Pixel foldable will have 5 cameras and 50 MP main sensor

Last week Google released the first beta version of Android 13 QPR1 (quarterly system update for Pixel phones) and many details within its code reinforce the arrival of varied products in the coming months, including a folding phone, new high-performance tablet and the long-awaited Pixel 7 Ultra.

In a series of posts made by Kuba Wojciechowski on Twitter, the knowledge of two Google foldable cell phones is detailed: the first, codenamed passportwould have already been cancelled, while the second, codenamed Pipitwould be powered by the first-generation Tensor chip, something that wouldn’t make much sense at the time of its release.

That said, Wojciechowski introduces us to the project Felix. Previously expected as a Pixel 7a, the device appears on Android 13 QPR1 with “multiple references to the folded and unfolded states, as well as internal and external cameras”.

According to lines of code, the smartphone offers a total of five cameras in its body: on the back cover we would have a main camera with a 50 MP Sony IMX787 sensor, a 12 MP Sony IMX386 sensor for the ultrawide lens and a 10 MP Samsung S5K3J1 for the telephoto lens.

Two other sensors are described as front cameras: an external one with the same 10 MP S5K3J1 sensor and an internal one with an 8 MP Sony IMX355.

In this way, it is clear that Google is secretly testing a folding smartphone with the same format as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Oppo Find N, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2: having a rigid external screen and a flexible internal screen.

Other details released by Wojciechowski reveal the existence of the “T6Pro” or “Tangorpro” tablet for 2023. In early stages of development, there are no big indications of what to expect for the device, but Google has already confirmed the launch of the Pixel Tablet for this year . So it is possible that Google is working on the Pixel Tablet Pro.

Finally, new details reinforce that the supposed Pixel “Ultra” (codenamed “Lynx” or “L10”) will have two 13 MP Sony IMX712 sensors; one will be aimed at the front camera, while the other will be taken to the ultrawide sensor of the rear camera.

We expect Google to introduce the Pixel 7 line and Pixel Watch during the October 6th event. The release date of products like the Pixel Tablet, Tablet Pro and Pixel Notepad (possible name for the foldable phone) is still unknown.
