Last August, Fossil’s sixth-generation watch family debuted with a Snapdragon 4100+ chip and an older Wear OS system. A Hybrid version has also been made since then, and now the newest member has arrived, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness, which is also based on the Snapdragon 4100+, but is the first to run the new Wear OS 3 system. This means that Google Play is available, Spotify or Google Maps can be downloaded to the watch, but there is no Google Assistant support yet, Fossil has integrated Amazon Alexa into its device.

A novelty is the Wellness application, which collects the health and fitness values measured by the watch in one place. These include blood oxygen level, heart rate, the watch can automatically detect workouts, record heart rate ranges, calculate VO2 Max value and even monitor sleep. The watch has a compass and altimeter, a built-in speaker and microphone, so it is also suitable for receiving calls paired with a telephone. It is compatible with both Android and iOS, communicates via Bluetooth 5.0 and has built-in NFC, so Google Wallet payments should, in theory, be functional.

All these data can be read from a 1.28-inch OLED display, which also features an always-alert display. The Gen 6 Wellness edition has 1 GB of operational memory, and the manufacturer provides 8 GB of storage space for the user’s applications and music. The casing is only available in a 44-millimeter version, but there is a choice of colors: black, silver, rose gold. Sales will begin on Monday, October 17 at a price of $299, which is around HUF 130,000.

Along with the start of sales, the Fossil group will also start sending out the Wear OS 3 update to the watches already on the market, based on the Snapdragon 4100+ platform, from October 17. That means the Fossil Gen 6, Michael Kors Gen 6, Razer X Fossil Gen 6, and Skagen Falster Gen 6 watches, and the update process will be a bit odd: the watches will have to be factory reset before installing Wear OS 3, then reset pair with the updated companion app on your phone.
