- Fitbit Charge 5 launch with 6 months of Fitbit Premium
- New, rounder design
- Brighter display
- Up to 7 days of battery life
Fitbit enjoys a very good reputation in the sports community and wants to improve it further with the newly introduced Fitbit Charge 5. The company, which has been part of Google for some time, has improved both visually and functionally with the new tracker.

New design, brighter display
The leaks of the last few days already showed that the fitness tracker series wanted to score with a fresh design. The Fitbit Charge 5 comes with a rounder, more modern look, which I like a lot better than the rather angular predecessor. Overall, the tracker is 10 percent slimmer and for the first time offers us an “always-on” display on a Fitbit fitness tracker. The display is twice as bright as its predecessor and should therefore be easy to read even in the sun.

Fitbit also refers to 20 colored clock faces that you can choose from. With the bracelets, too, you can ensure that you are more individual with your own look. You have the choice between “Infinity” straps made of silicone, breathable sports straps, nylon straps with Velcro, and, finally, versions made of leather.
The battery should now last up to seven days, which of course still depends on the level of your use. When testing the Fitbit Charge 4, Ben came up with a battery life of five days. But a new fitness tracker is only partly about the look and the hardware innovations. Rather, it’s about the features that can be offered to us, so let’s look at those too:
Fitbit Charge 5 specifications and features
The new Fitbit Charge 5 launch is also explicitly understood as a health tracker. Fitbit refers in its press release to the last few months and to the fact that we had to come to terms with stress, illness, and changed sleeping, eating, and training habits. Accordingly, this is exactly where the new model comes in and provides us with functions that should help us avoid stress and allow us the periods of rest that our body needs.
The daily form index will be new and will also be available on the other model’s Sense, Versa 3, Versa 2, Luxe and Inspire 2. In the best case, you will learn when your body is ready for training and when it is more important to take a break. There is a new assessment every morning, which will consist of your fitness fatigue, heart rate variability, and sleep cycles. The downside, as is so often the case with Fitbit: The daily form index will only be available for those who pay the Fitbit Premium subscription. Unfortunately, this still applies to many features.
You benefit from the integrated GPS, 20 training modes, automatic training recognition, and the estimation of the V02 max, but the countless training units are only available for premium customers.

New to the Charge 5 is the EDA sensor, which measures the body’s reaction to stress via tiny changes in the sweat glands of the fingers and which we already know from Fitbit watches. There is also a stress management index in the Fitbit app, the EKG app will be available in the future and your heart rate will be constantly monitored. You can keep an eye on breathing, skin temperature fluctuations, SpO2, and much more with the health dashboard.
Fitbit Charge 5 price, sale
Fitbit Charge 5 launch is again referring to premium subscriptions for many other features such as detailed sleep analysis or premium partnerships such as that with the “Calm” wellbeing service. That actually spoils my fun with the new fitness tracker, Fitbit Charge 5 price is 179.95 euros and $211 USD. After all, when you buy the Fitbit Charge 5, you can enjoy this premium membership for six months free of charge.
If the premium drop of bitterness is not enough for you, I have one more thing: You can pre-order now on the Fitbit website, but the product will not be available until autumn, although Fitbit has not yet given us an exact date. At first glance, with the Fitbit Charge 5, we get an extremely strong and handsome fitness tracker, which is also expensive and only reveals many functions to us when you also reach into your pocket. Decide for yourself whether this is worth the fun for you.
Until we can provide you with a detailed review, maybe just take a look at the alternatives that the current fitness tracker market has to offer – and let us know in the comments what you think of the new model.
