Expected for many months now the first OPPO Foldable smartphone would not be very far. In any case, this is what informants imagine who, via the social network Weibo, leak several clues pointing to a launch next month.
A launch that we imagine for the first time reserved for China before a hypothetical arrival on the Old Continent in 2022.
A French poster drives the Chinese web into a panic
In a funny way, we notice that the poster shared on Weibo by an informant is … French. This is an illustration on which we can admire a peacock (the mobile would be called “Peacock” internally) under the words “Open inspiration”. A sentence which, of course, sends us straight back to the idea we have of a folding smartphone, and which is accompanied on the social network by teasing for a December launch.
So what should we expect for this first hybrid smartphone from OPPO? According to several reports, the device adopts a format more reminiscent of the Huawei Mate X2 than the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Understand that the smartphone will not open from the inside, like a book, but from the outside.
On the technical side, it is said that the folding smartphone will carry an AMOLED LTPO screen, which should ensure the excellent fluidity of the display. Unfolded, the screen could stretch almost 8 inches, making it one of the largest foldable screen smartphones in its class. It should run on a Snapdragon 888 platform, and carry a 50-megapixel main sensor.
The price of the smartphone obviously remains a great unknown. We know that folding smartphones are still very expensive. Especially since OPPO is probably among the most “luxurious” manufacturers on the market (the OPPO Find X3 Pro is sold for € 1,149).
OPPO Foldable smartphone program already loaded
But without even talking about this folding smartphone, which necessarily marks an important step for the Chinese manufacturer, its schedule is already packed for the coming year.
Next month, OPPO is due to present its Reno 7 series in its home country. It will include the OPPO Reno7 and the Reno7 Pro, but should not arrive for several months in France. After all, we’ve only just enjoyed the Reno6 and Reno6 Pro.
Early next year, it will be time for OPPO to unveil the Find X4. These will probably be the first smartphones from the manufacturer to adopt Qualcomm’s future Snapdragon 898, which is set to become the new master standard of Android SoCs in 2022.
In short, stalls are already well filled, on which it will be necessary to find a place to cram a folding smartphone. And when we see how Samsung is swimming alone in its pelvis for the moment, we say to ourselves that the competition is in no hurry at all to join it there.
