Who of you (like me) regularly runs back to your apartment looking for the tiny box of in-ear headphones? If this is the Apple AirPods Pro, the search will soon be a little easier. Together with the AirPods Max over-ear headphones, the Find My feature is pending that will make the search for Apple devices easier.
- Apple distributes firmware updates for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max
- Adds features like distance display in the Find-My-App
- Lost Apple headphones should also be easier to track down
With a firmware update, Apple is expanding the functionality of the AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro Max headphones. The innovations relate to the tracking functions of the respective devices and are therefore primarily in the “Where is?” App. to find. But keep in mind that Apple didn’t equip its headphones with a U1 chip. The precise tracking and directional arrow that you know from Apple AirTags does not exist.

Instead, when Bluetooth is activated, the app shows you whether the headphones are “near” or “far”. As screenshots from the 9to5Mac page show, Apple uses the signal strength of the Bluetooth connection for this. In addition to the proximity feature, you can also report the headphones as lost and possibly get them back from other Apple users if they are lost. To prevent this from happening in the first place, the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro can also send a message if you are too far away from them with your iPhone in your pocket.
The firmware update will be rolled out gradually
Even if most of the reports about the new features come from the USA, Apple should bring the new features to Germany soon. On the support page of the “Where is?” Function, however, the new functions are not yet available in Germany. So check a little more often in the next few days to see if Find My feature for the AirPods Pro or the AirPods Max is available.
