Finally! WhatsApp Beta tests status option requested for years on iOS

WhatsApp is finally testing an option that iOS users have been waiting for for years: hiding online status. According to WABetaInfo, the feature is still under development, but lines of code within the Meta app indicate that it should be released soon for TestFlight participants.

Below you can see a screenshot with the new feature enabled by WABetaInfo, which shows a new option of “Who can see if I’m online” called “Same as Last Seen” (“Same as Last Seen”) on iOS. As there is also the option for no one to see Last Seen, so it hides the online status when enabled on both.

Therefore, we expect this feature to be released soon for WhatsApp beta users on iOS, as it has been around on Android for years. It’s interesting to mention that WhatsApp was already hiding Last Seen for contacts you’ve never talked to but have your phone number since last year.

Other test new features include longer time to delete messages, the option to react with any emoji in messages and editing sent items, one of the most requested functions so far.

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to say precisely when all the improvements should arrive in the Meta app, but we expect them to be available in the coming months.
