Emancipation: Will Smith's 1st movie after controversy gets trailer

Apple TV released, on Monday (03), the first trailer for Emancipation: A Story of Freedom. The production stars Will Smith and will be the first film to be released with the actor after the controversial slap episode during the 2022 Oscars ceremony.

Smith plays an American enslaved known as Gordon or “Whipped Peter”. Gordon escaped from a Louisiana plantation in March 1863 and gained his freedom when he arrived at the Union Army camp near Baton Rouge.

“Inspired by the gripping true story of a man who would do anything for his family and freedom. When Peter, an enslaved man, risks his life to escape and return to his family, he embarks on a dangerous journey of love and resistance. Emancipation. Check out the trailer below:

The film’s cast also includes names such as Ben Foster, Mustafa Shakir, Gilbert Owuor, Michael Luwoye, Charmaine Bingwa, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Grant Harvey, Steven Ogg and Aaron Moten.

The direction is by Antoine Fuqua, who provided the creative vision for projects such as Training Day and the music video Gangsta’s Paradise, by rapper Coolio, who passed away last week. Will Smith is credited as producer and Bill Collage is writing.

Emancipation debuts exclusively on the Apple TV+ streaming service on December 9 of 2022.
