Carl Pei hints at Android 13 beta for Phone (1).

In September, we tested and presented Nothing’s first phone, the Phone (1), which was launched with Android 12. This would not have been a problem, but several of the first buyers were outraged when it turned out that the manufacturer plans to release the Android 13 update only in 2023. On the one hand, because the development team of Nothing has to optimize the system exclusively for a mobile phone, and on the other hand, because Nothing OS differs in little from the basics provided by Google, such a difference is, for example, the integration of the Glyph interface, the user interface of headphones or the operator of Tesla cars.

The company’s founder, Carl Pei, has now shared a photo on Twitter, which was taken in the settings of a device running Nothing OS version 1.5.0, which is already based on Android 13. To the questions asked by users about whether there will be a beta program, Pei responded that it will arrive soon, but did not give specifics for now.

Although according to Pei, a product is more than a system version or just a specification, Android 13 contains many useful innovations that can also benefit the Nothing Phone (1), such as background processes that require less RAM. We still don’t know the exact date, the beta might be this year, the main version update will definitely not come to the Nothing Phone (1) until 2023.
