Avatar: director James Cameron explains amount of movies

In an interview with Screen Rant, Cameron spoke about the decision process when continuing production on a new film in the franchise.

“For a period, about a year and a half ago, I didn’t know if I wanted to do another Avatar. I knew how consuming it would be. It was basically four years of my life. I had no life outside of the movie for four years. I thought: ‘Do I really want to do this again?

Still, he chose to continue the franchise and not just with a single film. After all, the director claims that, in the end, he likes to “tell stories”.


“It was a decision between making more movies, probably avatar, or not making movies and continuing with expeditions, sustainability projects, ocean exploration – which I’ve been doing all the time. But I’m a storyteller and there’s still a lot of Avatar history to be told.”

According to a survey by Box Office Pro, Avatar: The Way to Water, a film that opens in less than a month, should raise about US$ 475 million at the box office. For comparison purposes, the first film, released in 2009, hit the $77 million mark in its opening weekend.
