Asus has revealed the announcement date of the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, a new gaming smartphone powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset. According to the teaser released by the brand, the device will be presented at a virtual conference on September 19, starting at 9 am (Brasilia time).

  • ASUS Zenfone 9 debuts as the big compact flagship of 2022

So far, Asus has only confirmed that the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate will be one of the first handsets on the market with the Dimensity 9000 Plus. Announced in June of this year, MediaTek’s new high-end processor promises to rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.

As per the information, the Taiwanese manufacturer’s platform promises a 5% gain in clock speed compared to the original Dimensity 9000. In addition, the chipset GPU has a 10% higher performance than the “old” processor.

More than 1 million on AnTuTu

Last week, a device with serial number ASUS_AI2203_D equipped with Dimensity 9000 Plus was spotted on the AnTuTu benchmark platform. Reaching 1,146,594 points, the highest score among Android phones, the device performed about 3% better than the ROG Phone 6 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.

The sum of the CPU, GPU, memory, and interface performance points form the total assessment score. So, just the CPU of the new smartphone scored over 290k points, about 15% higher than any Qualcomm chipset registered on the platform.

Previously, the new device from Asus was also spotted on the Chinese body 3C with support for fast charging of 65 W. The other details about the phone should be presented at the conference on September 19th.

Chipset aimed at gaming and photography

Using the ARMv9 architecture, the Dimensity 9000 Plus is comprised of an ARM Cortex X2 performance “ultra-core” operating at a clock speed of 3.2 GHz. Produced with TSMC’s 4nm lithography, the platform still has three Cortex-A710 high-performance cores and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores.

Favoring gaming performance, the MediaTek platform features the Mali-G70 MC10 GPU compatible with QHD+ resolution displays with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. As well, the processor supports HDR10+ and AV1 decoding.

For photography, the chip can work together with sensors up to 320 MP and perform 8K recording at 24 frames per second (fps). In addition, the component supports LPDDR5X RAM memory, 5G connection, Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.

In addition to the Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, the Dimensity 9000 Plus has been announced as the processor of a new variant of the Xiaomi 12 Pro and a future model of iQOO. Other Chinese brands are also considering adopting MediaTek’s recent premium chipset.
