In March 2020, Apple got its hands on Dark Sky, a popular weather app known for its detailed local weather reports and with an API used by competitors such as Carrot Weather.

Now it is clear that the IOS version of Dark Sky stops working at the turn of the year, this when most of the functions have been baked into Apple’s weather app with the launch of IOS 16.

Next month, Apple’s weather app will also be released for Ipad, this as part of Ipad OS 16.1.

The Android version of Dark Sky has already been shut down, so the news doesn’t come as a big surprise.
