Android will allow you to archive applications to gain space on the cell phone

Is the cell phone full of applications? The first solution that comes to mind is to delete those that are used the least. However, it is possible that for some reason you want to keep them for later. In this case the question is: How to make that service that is not used frequently does not take up so much space?

To solve this situation, Google announced a new function that will arrive soon (there is still no precise date) to Android devices. This It will allow the applications that are used less to occupy 60% less spaceor. What is it about? It consists of the possibility of deleting fragments of the app. This, known as archiving the app, will allow the platform to stay on your computer and can be restored later.

In this way, all the saved data will remain, users will not have to remove the applications to reduce space and the developers of the apps will reduce the number of downloads of their services.

This is how the company explains it through its blog for developers: “EInstead of uninstalling an app, users could ‘archive’ it, temporarily freeing up space and reactivate the application quickly and easily. Developers can benefit from fewer uninstalls and substantially less friction to get back to their favorite apps.”

This new function will come from the hand of Bundletool 1.10 and will be available to all developers using App Bundles.

“For apps built with Android Gradle Plugin 7.3, cWe will start generating a new type of APK: archived APKs. Archived APKs are very small APKs that retain user data until the app is restored. While we will start creating archived APKs now, they will not be operational until the archive functionality is released to consumers later in the year.

On the other hand, from the company it is clarified that developers will also have the option not to use this feature. In this sense, it is an optional tool that can be managed simply by modifying the corresponding code.

Some adjustments to take care of the mobile space

1. Clear cache

To delete the cache, which are files that take up unnecessary space, just go to Settings/Applications/Storage and delete the cached data of each of the apps.

It should be noted that this will serve as temporary relief. The cache of the apps will be re-stored as they are used again.

2. Delete downloaded media content

you have to go until Settings/Device care/Storage. Or, directly by entering Settings, and writing in the magnifying glass of the search engine that appears there, “Storage” to go to that section. When you enter this option you will see how much space the images, videos, documents and downloaded apps occupy.

3. Use file management tools

files is a Google application that not only allows you to manage storage intelligently, but also has other functions to create backups and share files with ease. The app suggests which apps to delete taking into account the user’s profile and the use given to that material. In addition, it can identify files such as duplicate photos or videos and thus suggest deleting them to avoid unnecessary space consumption.
