Settings for the always-alert display were added to iOS in the third beta of version 16.2 of the system. The always-alert display, known as always-on display, is a unique function of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max among Apple phones. Since its release, the user could only set whether or not the function is required in relation to the always-alert display. If it felt it needed the continuous display, iOS dimmed the main screen and updated the LTPO OLED panel every minute or every notification. iOS 16.2 beta 3 brings a few compromises, the permanent display settings are expanded with two switches. One can be used to turn off the display of the background image, and the other can be used to disable notifications from AoD. If the user uses both, the device will only show the clock, the date and below the selected widgets, which will be updated once per second, reducing the image update to 1 Hz. The style of the clock and the text adapts to the settings specified on the lock screen, but you cannot do anything else on the AoD, it will work with a plain black background.

If you can’t wait for iOS 16.2 to be released, you can activate the Do Not Disturb focus mode so that AoD only displays the time and date on your phone, but not the background image and notifications.
