A Haunting in Venice: the trailer for the new Poirot film with Kenneth Branagh!

On the occasion of the presentation of the price list at CinemaCon, Disney launched the first, suggestive trailer for A Haunting in Venice, the new Hercule Poirot film directed and starring Kenneth Branagh and shot in Venice between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

The film is inspired by  Hallowe’en Party, a 1969 novel entitled in Italian  The Massacre of the Innocents, and brings Poirot into the context of an almost supernatural mystery, as the trailer also shows. The detective must in fact solve a murder during a Halloween party. The novel is described as follows:

During preparations for a Halloween party, a thirteen-year-old girl, Joyce Reynolds, claims to have witnessed a murder that took place years earlier, and to have understood the real nature of what she observed only later. At the end of the evening she is found dead, drowned in a bucket of water used for one of the games held during the party. Asked by the writer and friend Ariadne Oliver, present at the scene of the crime, Hercule Poirot begins to investigate the mysterious murder.

The screenplay was written by Michael Green and Branagh, who “updated” the story making it more current:

Now retired, in self-imposed exile in the most glamorous city in the world, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance in a decaying and haunted mansion. When one of the guests is killed, the detective finds himself in a world of shadows and secrets.

Produced by 20th Century Studios, the film has a very rich cast just like the first two films: Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Jude Hill, and Kelly Reilly, alongside Emma Laird, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Ali Khan, and Riccardo Scamarcio.

The release is scheduled for September 15: needless to say, we expect a presentation at the Venice Film Festival.
