David Trueba make a movie based on the early years of the humorist Eugenio’s career. Be David Verdaguer (One for all) who plays the charismatic comedian, while Carolina Yuste (Carmen and Lola) will play the role of Conchita, the protagonist’s first wife.
they know that it will be set in the Barcelona of the 60s and 70s; Filming will begin this week, as announced by the producers Ikiru Films, by the hand of Atresmedia Cinema and Warner Bros.
The film is written and directed by David Trueba from a script by Albert Espinosa based on the books Eugenio and They know the one that I gave, of Gerard Jofra, son of the popular humorist.
“This is a film about humor. And about survival,” said Trueba, who recalls that Eugenio was one of the most popular comedians of the Transition despite the fact that “everything in his appearance showed that he was at odds with humor”.
Eugenio Jofra was a young jeweler when he met Conchita on a Barcelona bus at the end of the 1960s. Eugenio learned to play the guitar to accompany her in her musical career, for which he had to fight against the stage fright.
When Conchita has to leave Barcelona for two weeks, she convinces Eugenio to carry out the performances by himself. When she returns, he has become a underground comedy phenomenon from the city.
Little by little, between the two of them they will build the character: the glasses, the black shirt, the stool, the cigarettes and the highball glass, that it will become an unexpected success in a depressed Spain that desperately seeks to laugh with that singular comedian who begins all his jokes with “saben aquell”.
