Bad news for fans of 1899: the series was canceled by Netflix and will not win a second season. The news was revealed by creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese (also responsible for the hit German series, dark) on the social networks. The two thanked fans, but did not reveal the reason for the cancellation.
“With a heavy heart, we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would love to end this incredible journey with Seasons 2 and 3, as we did with dark. But sometimes, things don’t go as planned. It’s life,” the post reads.
“We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget.”

- 1899: 7 productions similar to the Netflix series
In November, the premiere of the series was the subject of controversy, when a Brazilian artist indicated many similarities between her work and the Netflix series.
With the repercussion, the creators of the series countered the accusations of plagiarism. “Unfortunately, we don’t know the artist, her work or the comics. We would never steal from other artists as we feel like artists ourselves. We have also contacted her so we hope she withdraws these accusations,” said Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese.
